After you have started your blog, in order to get the traffic, the most important thing you need to do is marketing. Just imagine your blog is a small shop some where located in a very large shopping mall, if your shop was not indexed in the directory, how do you expect people will find your shop? Therefore, you need to know several blog directories and submit your blog to them.

I support free services because I personally think that every blog should have fair treatment and competition especially in the blog world. With that, the following services that I am going to introduce are all for free, at least at this moment.

1. Technorati


Technorati is an index website for photo, video as well as blog. After create a free account with Technorati, you can claim your blog under the profile page. Enter your blog URL, Technorati will verify the blog ownership by sending you to your blog (using OpenID) to log in. After the verification, enter your tag for your blog. This is important because people can find your blog easily through your tag. I would strongly suggest that you can go to Google keyword to search for relevant keywords and keep it on a file so that you can reuse those keywords to describe your blog.

Technorati rank blog by authority, the more links back to your blog, the higher authority you have. This simply means that many other websites or pages out there are talking about your page.

2. My Blog Log


My Blog Log is a yahoo service, if you have a yahoo account, you can sign in directly and create a MyBlogLog account. After entering your profile information, you can add your services (facebook, twitter, friendster, etc) so that people can contact you or add you as friend from other platform and community.

You can add your blog to your page, and remember enter the correct and relevant tag to your blog. Do this just like what you did in Technorati.

After you have added your blog, add your own friends from your yahoo account so that your friends can join you. Otherwise, you can search through mybloglog and add friends so that people will visit your page and through this they may choose to visit your blog as well. If your blog has good content, visitor will join your community as a member. Simply, you have built your own community.

One nice feature that MyBlogLog provided is that you can create visitor widget, when MyBlogLog visitor come to your blog, their photo or avatar will show on your widget. This is much better than just showing the number of visitor you have.

Nevertheless, Wordpress enable you to upgrade to better feature, like custom CSS, more storage space, unlimited private user and etc with small amount of cost. You can have your blog parking at your domain address from Wordpress as well.

Last to mention - Type Pad, though it is not free service like the above two, it comes with great services and unique feature. Typepad has its own SEO – search engine optimized technique that make your blog easily found by searcher, you can measure your blog traffic without using a third party counter, and typepad is partnered with Amazon, eBay and Pay pal to make you earn money faster through blogging.
